SFS Ladies too hot for Sunderland

Scarborough Football Scholarship Ladies claimed a thrilling 6-4 win when they entertained Sunderland 2 in the National Football Youth League Womens’ Premier.

Hat-trick hero Christy Thompson

The lead was doubled on the half-hour when striker Izzy Matique finished well.

Sunderland dug in and pulled it back to 2-2, but a speculative strike from distance by Christy Thompson restored the lead.

Sunderland took control either side of the break and managed to forge ahead at 4-3.

But once again the SFS team showed their character, Maddie Blundell firing home a superb free-kick from a tight angle and Thompson scoring her second to give them the advantage at 5-4.

The impressive Thompson wrapped up her hat-trick and a 6-4 success in the closing stages, polishing off a fine performance, highlighted by further fine displays by Katie Robinson and Mystee Kearns.
