Scholars edged out by Newcastle
Scarborough Football Scholarship’s first XI were edged out by Newcastle Elite Academy in a thrilling Cup game that finished 4-3. Robbie Scarborough scored two of the Scholars’ goals, with Chris Pearson adding the other. They were stung by an injury to keeper Lewis Maw in the second half, he had to be replaced between the sticks by Brad Wood. Josh Welburn was the star of the show for the Scholars at centre-back. Ladies set for elite challenge
Next week (Fri 30th) sees the start of the new girls football league in which The Scarborough Football Scholarship have entered. The league is a 7 a side format and will see the girls face the likes of Barnsley FC, Rotherham United and Sheffield United. Two Scarborough Football Scholarship students made their debuts for Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday night in the North Riding FA Senior Cup win against Redcar Town. Aidan Thurston and Robbie Scarborough both started the game, while ex-Scholar Ben Atkinson also played the full 90 minutes.
