The Scarborough Football Scholarship is delighted to welcome teacher and expert goalkeeper coach Andy Phillips on board.
Andy is a UEFA B keeper coach, with a degree in physical education and a PGCE qualification.
He has played non-league football for a number of clubs and has run his own specialist goalkeeper coaching sessions for over nine years.
He said: “I am really excited to be back coaching in Scarborough and joining Scarborough Football Scholarship. A number of goalkeepers that have gone through my goalkeeping schools in the town are now at professional and semi-professional clubs.
“I am looking forward to working with some keepers who first came to me as juniors and hopefully push them on into the senior squad with Scarborough Athletic.
“I am also keen to show that there are lots of other opportunities to be involved in football as a career, such as US scholarships and the backroom staff, such as physios, nutritionists and sports scientists.”
Scholarship director Steve Brennan said: “It’s fantastic to have a specific goalkeeper coach on board this year. Andy brings a wealth of experience to the Scholarship both on and off the pitch and sure he will take our excellent group of keepers to the next level as well as support our team in the class.
“He is another great signing for us as we aim to push football in Scarborough forward.”
Andy is also hoping to start goalkeeper sessions in Scarborough for junior goalkeepers. This will be the opportunity for goalkeepers from all clubs to improve their goalkeeping skills with a specialist UEFA B qualified goalkeeper coach.
He also runs Speedkix, a company he founded two years ago which provides Teambuilding, kids parties, fundraising, event planning and stag and hen parties.
Some of the activities include NERF wars, Bubble Football, Tag Archery and the Football ‘Speedkix Challenge’
