Scarborough Athletic’s Michael Coulson has signed up to do a BSC Hons degree with the Scarborough Football Scholarship.

The 31-year-old, who also played for Scarborough FC, St Johnstone, Barnsley and Grimsby Town, will be studying for the Sports Coaching Degree at the Scholarship’s Flamingo Land Stadium-base from September.

Coulson said: “In the future when my playing career is over, I’ll be looking at opportunities to remain in the game.

“To be involved in professional sport you need a degree, so it is great to be able to do it with Steve Brennan and the Scarborough Football Scholarship.”

Scholarship manager Steve Brennan added: “It is great to be able to help somebody who has been in the professional game, also somebody from Scarborough who wants to continue moving forward.

“Due to our link with Loughborough College, it gives our students the opportunity to go down there once a term to use the facilities and get the professional training, which will help with their progression.”

The Scholarship, in conjunction with Loughborough College, runs full-time BTEC courses in sport, as well as BSC Hons Degree courses is Sports Science, Sports Coaching and Sports Business and Management.

The degree courses are for students of over the age of 19, with full funding available and they also offer a football programme with our hugely experienced coaches.
