Steve Brennan


He is our lead tutor having founded the Scarborough Football Scholarship in 2012.

He has a UEFA B coaching licence and a Level One in goalkeeper coaching and FA Psychology.

His qualifications also include a Level Five  in Sports Science.

Steve has managed in the Northern Counties League and has also taken charge of Scarborough Athletic Reserves.

Denny Ingram


Denny is qualified at UEFA Level Two level and working towards his UEFA B Licence.

He has played 228 game in the Football league as a professional footballer with Hartlepool United and also represented Scarborough FC, Northwich Victoria, Forest Green Rovers, Halifax Town, Harrogate Town, Whitby Town, Scarborough Athletic and Tadcaster Albion.

Denny is the current manager at Semi-Professional Team Pickering Town, having previously been a player/assistant-manager with Scarborough FC and Scarborough Athletic.

Ryan Blott


Ryan has worked at the Scholarship for three years in a coaching and tutoring role.

He played for Scarborough FC in the National League North and then went on to become Scarborough Athletic’s all-time record goalscorer, hitting the back of the net over 250 times.

He is currently player-coach and club captain at Scarborough Athletic. 

Michael Coulson


Michael has recently joined our coaching staff.

He is currently the captain of Scarborough Athletic, having joined the club three seasons ago.

Michael has had a distinguished career in the game, which has taken him from Scarborough FC and on to play for clubs like Barnsley, St Johnstone and Grimsby Town.

Martin Dowey


Martin runs the marketing and recruitment department of the Scholarship.

He has over 19 years experience as a journalist, working for the Yorkshire Post, the Sunday Sun and with Yorkshire Regional Newspapers.

He is also the commercial director with Scarborough Athletic.

Matthew Butterworth


Matthew is the Head of Academic Studies at Coventry University (Scarborough), having previously been the Project Manager and Lecturer in Health.

He has also worked as a HE Sport Academic Lead and a HE Sport Subject Leader at Leeds City College and Bishop Burton College respectively.

Josh Fergus

Josh has been a scholar for the past three years and he has now gone on to join the staff as an apprentice, which sees him helping out on the pitch and in the classroom.

He has previously trained with Scarborough Athletic and Pickering Town.

Jim Mellor

Jim has spent the past 43 years in teaching.

He has worked as a sport development officer and the head of sport at Scarborough Sixth Form College.

Andy Phillips

Andy has a UEFA B Goalkeeper and Outfield qualification, a degree in Physical Education and PGCE teaching qualification.
He has been teaching for over 20 years and has run his own specialist goalkeeper schools for nine years.

Leah Ager

Leah is the head sports therapist at the Scarborough Football Scholarship and also sports therapist for Scarborough Athletic.
She is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists, having studied sport therapy injury assessment, injury rehabilitation and manual therapy.

Chris Stubbings

Chris is a director and a PT instructor at Sniper Fitness.

He leads our strength and conditioning sessions at the Scholarship.

Sasha Woods

Sasha is a former Scarborough Football Scholarship student.

She is now studying sports therapy at York St John’s University, as well as being the sports therapist for Scarborough Athletic Juniors and the Scholarship.
